IIDA CHAPTERS ANNOUNCE
FIRST WEST COAST STUDENT DESIGN CHARETTE

Los Angeles, CA — The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Northern California, Northern Pacific, Oregon, and Southern California Chapters are proud to announce the Inaugural West Coast Student Design Charette competition. The competition will be held on April 11, 2015 in Los Angeles, CA. Collectively, the four IIDA Chapters represent 2,350 Members in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alberta, British Columbia and 65 Design programs.

CREATION OF THE STUDENT DESIGN CHARETTE EVENTS
The vision for the charette competitions was initiated at the first annual leaders retreat of the four West Coast IIDA Chapters in the fall of 2010, to showcase the up-and-coming interior design talent across our region. The IIDA Southern California Chapter was the first Chapter to host a local student charette in 2012, and has held one each year since. The IIDA Oregon Chapter followed with their local event in 2014. Between November 2014 and February 2015, all four West Coast IIDA Chapters will host a local event and advance the winning student teams on to Los Angeles, CA for the West Coast competition. The winning West Coast team will be awarded a trip to Chicago to compete in the International IIDA Student Design Charette during NeoCon 2015.

ABOUT THE EVENTS
The Student Design Charette events are modeled much like the IIDA International Student Design Charette. At each level of competition, teams will be comprised of student members from different schools and grade levels, and of varying IIDA Chapters at the West Coast level.

Teams of student members will be solving a design challenge within 6 hours, using only hand drafting and rendering. The teams will present their design solutions to a panel of judges comprised of West Coast Interior Design Professionals. Following critiques of the solutions, the judges will select a winning team to advance to the next level of Interior Design Charette competition.

An evening of networking will occur on April 10, 2015, the day before the West Coast Charette. Professionals from several Interior Design firms will present in a “Reverse Pecha Kucha” format to communicate their respective firm design cultures and work to the students. After winners of the West Coast Student Design Charette are announced, all participating students will be treated to a private dinner followed by a  tour of the Getty Museum.

Further coverage and event info will be posted on the West Coast Charette host’s IIDA Southern California Chapter Blog, at iida-socal.org.
